Pulling out a sensational lap from mediocre machinery, no offence Haas, is one thing. However, keeping Max Verstappen & Co. behind for 24 laps at the Brazilian GP Sprint Race is a whole different ball game. But Kevin Magnussen, who has Viking blood flowing through his veins, made his intentions pretty clear.

After qualifying, the Dane spoke about his maiden pole and what he wanted to do for the Sprint Race. He began, “I don’t know what to say. The team put me out on track at exactly the right moment. We were the first out of the pit lane and it was a decent lap that got me pole. It’s incredible. Thank you to Gene Haas, Guenther [Steiner] and the whole team for this opportunity.”

The gravity of the moment wasn’t lost on Guenther Steiner though. He said, “This is the thing… you’re scared to dream about it, I think! It’s something, you know, we are trying hard, the whole team is trying hard since seven years, and then circumstances let us pull this one off!”

About Magnussen, he gave him the highest praise any racing driver can ever get. “At the right time he [Magnussen] put the lap down. Just a perfect lap down.”
