Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff Disclose Details About Their Late Night Whatsapp Texts

Communication is key. Especially, in the fast-paced world of Formula 1 and all its complicated developments. Some might wonder how the most successful driver in the turbo-hybrid era stays in touch with the most successful team principal of the turbo-hybrid era. Surprisingly, Lewis Hamilton revealed that he keeps in contact with Toto Wolff like any 2 friends would – over messaging platforms.

How Lewis Hamilton keeps in touch with Toto Wolff

In an interview conducted with Sky Sports before the season was abruptly delayed, Hamilton opened on up on his relationship with Wolff. When asked about how he stays connected to Wolff, the Brit disclosed their messaging norms. Hamilton revealed that he stays in touch with Wolff on race weekends by messaging him during events with tightly packed media duties.

Lewis also added that he WhatsApp’s Toto after difficult race weekends. The pair acknowledged the fact that they discuss shortcoming after a difficult race. Wolff also revealed that they constantly message each other to communicate ideas and send positive messages. Speaking to Martin Bundle, Toto and Hamilton said:

“I’m not really great at communicating on my phone, I think I’m better in person” confessed Hamilton.

On race weekends we message each other if we don’t get to see each other during the day”

“Because he’s (Toto) doing media or whatever it may be”

“So, he’ll be back in the hotel and sometimes we pop ideas to each other”

” Sunday night we do text each other mostly after the next couple of days cause it could be really painful”

“We’re like, Geez I couldn’t sleep last night and Toto’s like I was the same, I’ve been up since 3:00 am “

Brundle asked Toto if he felt “edgy” when Hamilton doesn’t communicate for weeks on end, to which the Austrian replied negatively. Toto revealed that they had a common understanding and respected each other’s space after 10 months of hard racing.

We have such an almost synchronized behaviors”

“When we shut down before Christmas, everybody needs to have his own space”

“Every now and then we would be sending WhatsApp’s to each other when you have you (Lewis) have an idea”

“and then we come back together at the beginning of February and then goes seamlessly into the season,” said Toto.

With Hamilton’s contract drawing to a close and the media reporting many rumors, the pair needs to stay connected now more than ever.
