Lewis Hamilton Bemoans Lack of Improvement From Bahrain Despite Mercedes F1 Updates at Jeddah

Lewis Hamilton, after a third-place finish in Bahrain last week, is moving towards the Saudi Arabian GP. The seven-time world champion is now in Jeddah for the second race week. But the sessions aren’t going well as the Brit is still struggling with his 2022 challenge.

The Silver Arrows have been facing a lot of issues, especially with the porpoising. Due to this, the Seven-Time World Champion is unable to bring out the maximum pace of his 2022 challenger in the straights of the Jeddah circuit. The struggle with the car is haunting the German constructor since Bahrain.

Hamilton reported, “It was a normal day, we still have many of the same problems we had in the last race but we are working on it. It’s definitely a bit more difficult here with the high-speed corners, but the grip is really good on the track and we just need to find some speed on the straights.”

“Tonight we will work head down to try to understand today’s data and to put ourselves in the best position to prepare for tomorrow’s qualifying,” Hamilton continued.

Lewis Hamilton faces extreme porpoising

Mercedes is the 2021 constructor’s champion and has dominated the sport over the past 8 years. But they had a bad start this season. They still haven’t figured out the problem with the car and how they can get the most out of it. Since the pre-season, the W13 is facing a lot of issues with bouncing. Mercedes even introduced many controversial upgrades to improve the car, but they weren’t that much of help.

The Silver Arrows continued struggling even in the Bahrain race weekend. The drivers failed a front-row qualifying and had a tough time competing against the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull. Lewis Hamilton was able to finish third as both the Red Bull cars ahead of him retired from the race.

The Brackley base didn’t look much impressive in the Friday practice in Jeddah. Hamilton and George Russell finished P9 and P15 in the FP1. But their performance improved a little during the F2, with Lewis and Russell finishing P5 and P6, respectively. Meanwhile, Ferrari continued their dominance in Saudi Arabia and Red Bull was just behind them.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will soon get behind the wheel of W13 for the last practice session. Later, they will go for the Saturday qualifying for the main race. Let’s see if Mercedes got some upgrades to improve their pace for qualifying and the Sunday race.
