Back in the late 2010s, Mercedes had to think about how they were going to keep their prevailing dominance. And now, the Brackley stable is looking for ways to stop the likes of McLaren from taking the runners-up spot. Amid all this, the 2024 resurrection is also on the plate. Ever since the new Ground Effect regulations have been introduced, Mercedes doesn’t seem to be anywhere near the pace of where they want to be. Last year was spent fighting with Ferrari for 2nd in the championship and the story looks to be the same this year. However, the contenders for the position keeps changing based on the track. Red Bull has been the class of the field and probably won’t be caught this season. The fight for second place is tight with Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin and now McLaren also joining the fight for the same. Amid all this Mercedes’ Chief Technical Director Mike Elliott revealed that after the Summer Break, the team will push to develop for this season as well to put that leaning into the 2024 that will hopefully be a title challenger.

According to Motorsport.Nextgen-Auto, Mike Elliott said, “As for what we can expect from the second half of the season, we must continue to push, again and again. We want to know more about this car so that we can integrate it into the development of next year’s car. Despite many teams challenging for P2 in the constructors, McLaren looks the most potent as of now. Nonetheless, Mike Elliott emphasizes keeping 2nd place. Lewis Hamilton and Co. know how to win championships as they’ve done in the past. However, Christian Horner suggests the championships and dominance was just luck.

Christian Horner suggested that it was painful for the Red Bull team to see Mercedes win all those championships during their dominant era in the mid-late 2010s. The Red Bull TP suggested that people get less punishment for committing a crime. He added that Red Bull had an engine deficit. Mercedes got lucky with the fact that Red Bull’s engine wasn’t as powerful as them.
