The discussion of who will be the replacement for Lewis Hamilton has caught the attention of both the Silver Arrow drivers. Although Lewis Hamilton will be leaving the team after this season, he pitched in to talk about the rumors of Verstappen taking his place.
The rumors started when Jos Verstappen was found in conversation with Toto Wolff, and since then there has been no looking back. When approached about the rumors, Toto Wolff built up excitement, saying, “Anything is possible.” But before we received a word from Lewis Hamilton, George Russell spoke up about having Max Verstappen as a teammate. And shortly after, Lewis Hamilton followed by sharing his thoughts during a press conference ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
When the topic of rumors surrounding Max Verstappen’s move to Mercedes was brought up, the seven-time world champion said, “Max is definitely on the list at Mercedes.” While this is no surprise as he is currently the best driver on the grid, it just proves how much this rumor has gotten around the community in under a week. Lewis Hamilton on Max Verstappen’s current performance
Apart from the rumors of the Mercedes shift, the Briton driver addressed what looks like Verstappen’s undefeatable run. Hamilton told Motorsport, “We’ve had the Schumacher dominance, you had my era of dominance, it happens all the time. And I think we can’t take anything away from Red Bull. They’ve done such an amazing job.”
Not leaving behind the team, Hamilton applauds Red Bull for their current achievements extending the credit beyond the driver. After mentioning that the Milton Keynes-based team has set the bar high, he spoke of how that kind of performance is something the other teams are striving to get. He also stated that Formula One would be more fun if it was a closer battle, but accepts the reality of the situation.
