From the top of the world to not even having a say in things, such was the fall of Lewis Hamilton from 2021 to 2022. The Brit lost out on a record-breaking eighth championship title by a hair’s length. We all are already aware of the harrowing 2022 season. Hamilton’s worst season of his career raised a lot of questions about his future and many suggested he retire. Although, the Mercedes man pushed through and came out stronger toward the end of the season. His persistence regarding his requirements from the car is also bearing fruit now. However, there came a point where the Brit thought about a sabbatical. Luckily, he rejected any such suggestion and now we have the reasons why.

Many would’ve accepted and understood Hamilton’s decision to retire anytime after the end of the 2021 season. Although Hamilton did not take retirement into consideration, many experts understand why. However, as seen in an interview, the Brit could’ve taken a sabbatical but quickly dismissed that thought with his reasoning.

“You could say this could’ve been a good time to have taken a sabbatical. But in natural fact, I’m very hands-on. I want to be hands-on in the development and the direction the car is going. I know what I need in a car and I know how to work with the team in order to get there. So you just have to work through it,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton fought for what he wanted and we witnessed the public bashing of Mercedes stemming from his desire to get back on the top. It all turned out to be the right decision in the end. In fact, Hamilton clarified his stance on the future once and for all in a recent interview.

Since the start of the 2023 season, Hamilton’s future has been a topic of public discussion. The Brit has an offer on the table, but he’s yet to put pen to paper. This made many assume it was because of the poor state of the car. The stalled contract extension made many speculate about a possible split between Hamilton and Mercedes.

However, despite the delay, Hamilton has pledged his loyalties to the German team and even made his stance on his future clear.

Hamilton said, “I feel amazing about it (the future), I continue to feel very, very much at home, it’s a family. I see myself being with Mercedes till my last days. If you look at the legends, Sir Stirling Moss was with Mercedes till the end of his days, and that’s been the dream for me, to one day have that. I mean, I have that, so just continue on with that, continue to build with the brand.”
