In a bombshell post, Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from the sport at the end of the 2022 season. This means that there are only 2 drivers from the pre-turbo hybrid era on the current grid; Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

The three have dominated the world of F1 for nearly 2 decades. In fact, it is insane to think that the 2022 season is the first season in 18 years that does not feature one of these three in the title fight.

Fans even made the comparison with the big 3 of tennis, labeling them the big 3 of F1.

Lewis Hamilton pays tribute to rival and friend Sebastian Vettel after the news of his retirement

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have shared the grid since 2007. They have gone head to head for the title on multiple occasions. Sadly, Vettel has decided to call it quits at the end of the 2022 season.

The Briton took this chance to speak about his rival and friend Vettel. He wrote on Twitter, “Seb, it’s been an honour to call you a competitor and an ever greater honour to call you my friend.” He went on to write, “Leaving this sport better than you found it is always the goal. I have no doubt that whatever comes next for you will be exciting, meaningful, and rewarding. Love you, man.”
