Finally, Formula 1, Scuderia Ferrari, and Mercedes all sent out statements confirming the news. Now, Hamilton himself has broken his silence on the matter. It was honestly about time he responded and put an end to the craziness.

The 39-year-old stated: “It’s been a crazy few days which have been filled with a whole range of emotions. But as you all now know, after an incredible 11 years at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, the time has come for me to start a new chapter in my life and I will be joining Scuderia Ferrari in 2025. I feel incredibly fortunate, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only have dreamed of as a kid, that I now have the chance to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red.”

He acknowledged that Mercedes had been a huge part of his life, right from his teenage years. Naturally, it was extremely difficult for him to leave the safety of the nest. Hamilton confessed that he was proud of the accomplishments that he achieved with the Mercedes brand. The 7-time F1 champion was also grateful for his team’s hard work and dedication. Of course, he had special shout-outs to team principal Toto Wolff and the late great Niki Lauda.

Aside from his main team, the 39-year-old also paid tribute to the Mercedes-Benz board and company personnel. However, he insisted that it was the right time in his career to step away and undertake a new challenge. Lewis Hamilton compared it to the time when he first joined the Mercedes works team back in 2013. He knew that many did not understand the logic behind the move at the time, and felt that it would be the same with Ferrari.
