What an unexpected way to start the season for Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes man picked up the 183rd podium of his career and he did it in style. Mercedes had a better start to 2022 than what they initially would have expected, as their new driver George Russell was right behind Lewis in P4.
For a long time, nobody has seen such enthusiastic Lewis Hamilton after the race. Nobody in the Silver Arrows thought that they’d end up taking P3 and P4 in the race after qualifying in P5 and P9 the same weekend. Luck played a big part as two Red Bulls retired just before the end of the race.

The seven-times world champion shared his moments with his race engineer Peter Bonnington. Known as Bono, Peter is a senior race engineer at Mercedes and has a long-time work relationship with Lewis. As Hamilton crossed the finishing line, Bono took a turn to congratulate him with, “Beautiful work Lewis.”
Great start to the season. We gave it our all and ended up with the best result we could have. Well done to the Ferraris, great to see them share the podium. Big week of work ahead but I know we got this pic.twitter.com/p3HXaIR1XF

Soon after being congratulated, the elated Hamilton exclaimed “Wooo!” This scared the race engineer as we can hear him say, “WOAH.”
Extremely delighted with the race result, Lewis further asserted “Let’s go. Let’s go. Yes guys! Mega, mega job. Thank you so much for the hard work. Reliability is so important. Appreciate it.” The video was shared by Mercedes AMG F1’s official Twitter handle. Bono then continued with, “Well done Lewis, long way to go but, a nice way to start” before the video came to an end.
Bono really said: WOAHHHHHH 😂

Hamilton ended his race last season in the most dramatic way possible. The 37-year-old had almost nothing to say after Max Verstappen sped past him to take the Championship home. From there on to picking up the third place in the most unusual way, the day has been good for the former McLaren driver.
On top of that, Mercedes now has a 27 points cushion over their rivals Red Bull after the first race. These points will definitely prove to be crucial in the dying stages of the championship. Moreover, the championship is no longer just between Mercedes and Red Bull as Ferrari have proven themselves as a serious candidate this year, getting a one-two at the season opener.
