The rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is one for the history books. Last year, they fought tooth and nail for the Championship. Many felt that Hamilton received the short end of the stick last time around.

This year’s been different, though. Mercedes have not been close to Red Bull. As a result, the two haven’t really been fighting each other on track. That being said, ever since Austin this year, the Mercedes boys have been fast. At the Brazilian Grand Prix today, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton finally came face to face.

You’d imagine that the one-off rivalry of 2021 would’ve cooled off by now. But no, they made contact after a Safety Car restart that spelled a 5-second time penalty for Verstappen and sent him tumbling down the order. Meanwhile, Hamilton cruised along to get Mercedes’ first 1-2 of the season.

Fans react as Lewis Hamilton throws shade on Max Verstappen for Brazilian GP crash

You’d expect Hamilton to rejoice in his relative victory and not kick a man when he’s down. But it’s Max Verstappen we’re talking about after all. The 7x Champion hasn’t forgotten what happened last year, and he was ready to get one up on the Dutch lion on and off the track.

Let’s take a look at just a few reactions from Hamilton’s perspective of the turn 1 crash.

He really said that, didn’t he? Lewis Hamilton was asked post-race about the whole incident. Rather than talking about his superb recovery drive and the brilliant result for Mercedes, he was quick to take a jab at his arch-nemesis.

After the contact, both Hamilton and Verstappen tumbled down the order. However, the Dutch driver was handed a 5-second time penalty for his move down the inside at the Senna ‘S’. But after that, there was no looking back for the Brit. It was hammer-time indeed. But for Verstappen, he never really recovered.

This isn’t the first time Verstappen has been on the wrong side of Lewis Hamilton fans. This was a golden opportunity for them to troll the 2x Champion.
