Mercedes are very much looking forward to the upcoming season of Formula One. They have the young talent of George Russell driving alongside 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

However, many are concerned about how the two British drivers will get along. After all, things seemed to have gone sour when Hamilton had Nico Rosberg as his teammate at the Brackley-based team. Team principal Toto Wolff stated that Lewis will respect the competition that he will have with Russell in 2022.

Wolff states that Lewis Hamilton will have a fair competition with Russell

After Valtteri Bottas parted ways with the Silver Arrows at the end of the 2021 season, Mercedes chose to bring in Russell from Williams. Many were excited to see a British lineup at the Wolff-led team, but there were some who were concerned about the two working together.

Speaking of this to Auto Motor und Sport, Wolff said, “The size of Lewis is often wrongly questioned. Even after the events in Abu Dhabi, he immediately congratulated Max. Lewis only wants one thing: fair competition on the track. We will deliver that.” (Translated from German via Google)

In Formula One, your teammate is your biggest rival. A team requires both drivers to work together to get the best result. Seeing that Mercedes had a tough time when Rosberg and Hamilton were partners, Wolff gives his thoughts of having two talented drivers on the same team for the 2022 season.
