As the F1 world is taken aback by the news of Red Bull Racing breaching the 2021 cost cap, Lewis Hamilton came up with his thoughts on the situation. The Mercedes driver who puts his faith in the FIA shared that his suspicion that began when Red Bull started bringing new upgrades back to back.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports F1 during the Japanese Grand Prix, the Silver Arrows ace shared, “Last year in Silverstone we had our last upgrade and fortunately it was great and we could fight with it, but then we could see Red Bull every other weekend bringing upgrades and I think at least four more from that point.”

“If we had spent three hundred thousand [$300,000] on a new floor or adapted wing, it would’ve changed the outcome of the championship naturally because we would’ve been in better competition in the next race with new added ons,” concluded the 37-year-old driver.

As per the FIA report, Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin have reportedly breached the 2021 cost cap.

As the Japanese Grand Prix got over, Max Verstappen clinched his second F1 world title. With the win in Japan, Verstappen has gone out of the reach of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez to pick up the title with four races to go.

Lewis Hamilton, who was Verstappen’s arch-rival last season, has been a mere shadow this time around. However, that didn’t stop the Silver Arrows star from congratulating the Dutchman on his new achievement.

Mercedes AMG F1 team, who were competitive enough for the wins till last year has failed to win even a single race in 2022. None of the drivers could snatch a win from Red Bull or Ferrari, despite pulling off a pole position through George Russell in Hungary.

As for Hamilton, his last win was in Jeddah when he won the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Interestingly, Verstappen has won a championship, whereas Hamilton couldn’t win a race. With four more races to go this season, it’ll be interesting to see how Mercedes can pull things up.
