Lewis Hamilton Reveals One of the Biggest Differences Between Driving For McLaren and Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton never claims his victories to be the fruit of a one man show. F1 might look like that at first glance, but upon taking a closer look, you will notice that there are hundreds of heads at work.
Almost at every race weekend that the Briton raced, we spotted him thanking his team, his crew. His words fruitfully portray what an integral part of the team they are. However, it was not always like this for the 7-time World Champion.
“Engineers often think they know everything better. Some may not even like to listen to the driver that much. Or so it was with McLaren. It’s different with Mercedes,” Hamilton told Auto Motor Und Sport.

As mentioned, since his time at Mercedes, the camp has worked with Hamilton; perhaps that is the secret to their success. Their mantra that has received a lot of praise is no slack and no rest. Despite being the best in the game, neither Mercedes nor Lewis Hamilton has stopped improving.
“I don’t go to the engineers and tell them: do this, do that. I say, hey, something’s wrong here, we can do something better. Then they think about it and come back and ask, how about we do it this way? So we work our way forward step by step,” remarked the Briton.

“An example: we have the longest car in the field. The funny thing is: none of the other teams copied us, and we win most of the races.

“Last year our car was good in fast and medium-fast corners, but not in slow ones. A similar trend was still evident in the winter tests.
“I put pressure on us to set up the car differently to address this problem. And it has improved without giving too much away. We no longer have the problem of turning the car around quickly,” concluded Hamilton.

This understanding that the champ speaks of in his anecdote sets champions apart from midfielders. Lewis Hamilton is aware of this, and he feels grateful. Although his future with the team is uncertain, he will miss these days and people if he leaves.
