Why did Lewis Hamilton’s mother never visit the tracks?

A candid interview with Lewis Hamilton and Carmen Larbalestier took place after the driver’s mother graced the tracks for the first time. The vibrant mother of the legend spoke about her never being at the track before, which was recorded and uploaded to Twitter.

The conversation starts with a casual discussion about Larbalestier’s first day on track. Lewis Hamilton’s mother responded by saying that the day was great. After discussing his mother’s hairstyle, the topic moved toward how she has never visited a race. That’s when Larbalestier gives the Mercedes driver a witty reply about how she avoided coming to the track.

During the interview, Hamilton said, “I can’t believe how have you never been…firstly to a launch in 17 years? And secondly, how have you never been out at the track with me?” To this, his mother replied, “I don’t know! How have l managed to escape that?”

It is surprising to see that the 7-time world champion’s mother never visited the track to see his son. But the connection they share is commendable.

Lewis Hamilton’s new name

Many years after his parent’s divorce, Lewis Hamilton decided to even change his last name from Hamilton to Larbalestier in honor of his mother. This happened during the 2022 Dubai Expo, where he announced the name change.

Although he is still known as Lewis Hamilton to the world, taking his mother’s name shows how he is proud of his heredity. On the occasion, Hamilton announced, “I’m proud of my family’s name. I’m about to add my mother’s name, Larbalestier, to my name; none of you may know that.” This announcement comes off as a shock as this is a lesser-known fact about the 7-time world champion.

That being said, Lewis Hamilton is very close to both his parents with his father pushing him into racing at a young age.
