With seven F1 world titles and 103 wins under his belt, Lewis Hamilton has cemented his place among the greats of F1, if not the greatest. The boy from Stevenage who stormed into F1 with McLaren back in 2007 showed no signs of slowing down, until now. As the Briton approaches his 17th F1 season in 2023, things are quite different from that of prior situations as committed issues crept in, believes former F1 driver David Coulthard.

Talking about this, the British former F1 driver told media outlet i, “Why have something on your to-do list, if you intend to do it? Just get it done.” Lewis Hamilton is yet to extend his contract with Mercedes after it expires at the end of 2023.

Coulthard went on, “So if he’s having doubts, and he really wants to see where things are before he decides whether he’s prepared to make the same life commitment – then mentally that’s the first stages of preparing for retirement.”

The retirement issue of Lewis Hamilton is a hot topic now as Mercedes are yet to see a green signal from him. Moreover, the Silver Arrows are still to give a battle-worthy car to Hamilton which he can use to fight for the championship amid rumors of replacement.

Coulthard believes Lewis Hamilton is a Mercedes loyalist

After arriving at Brackley in 2013, Lewis Hamilton spent a decade in the Mercedes AMG F1 team when he finished his 2022 season. After spending so much time with a team and achieving success, Coulthard believes it is highly unlikely that the 38-year-old will find his abode anywhere else.
