F1 star Lewis Hamilton has been away from the social media glare since the Abu Dhabi controversy. He looked furious over developments during the Safety car period, even calling it “manipulated”. Hamilton, along with team boss Toto Wolff, skipped the FIA prize-giving gala held in Paris as a sign of protest. However, it is currently under investigation by the FIA for possible violations of sporting regulations.

There has been a lot of bad blood between the Mercedes team and the FIA. Wolff has been openly critical of race director Masi’s role in the Abu Dhabi GP. Newly elected FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem assured the press in his first official briefing that he will scrutinize the matter closely.

“But definitely, if there is any breach, there is no forgiveness in this,” said the FIA president back then. However, there is a major development in this matter, as shared by Sulayem himself. FIA president informed that Lewis Hamilton is not responding to his messages, and he is not blaming the Brit for it.

Lewis Hamilton is not responding to FIA president Sulayem

Hamilton has made just two public appearances after the heartbreaking season finale. First, when he was conferred with a knighthood at the Windsor Castle and then to bid goodbye to Valtteri Bottas at Brackley.

More recently, Sulayem told the Express that he has attempted to contact the seven-time world champion several times but has failed to receive a response in return. “I’ve sent him messages, I don’t think he’s 100 percent ready to respond right now. We don’t blame him. I understand his position, as a driver, obviously, he is at a different level,” Sulayem said, as reported by the Independent.

“But there are also rules. As you read in the press, the new president is going to sanction; of course, they [the media] spice things up a lot with what is important for others.”

“In fact, my first objective is to go through the whole Abu Dhabi file. I think of course by not being at the gala, it’s something that Lewis and his team knew. But at the end of the day, we’re human too. There was stress and pressure,” he added.

Moreover, Sulayem also brushed off speculations that Hamilton might bow out of his seat in 2022. He is confident that the dust will settle down between the top team and the FIA once the 2022 season is underway. Till then, fans are waiting to see their favorite driver back on the grid in the F1 cockpit. It’s less than a month before the drivers start with the winter testing of 2022 cars.
