Lewis Hamilton is one of the very few who are both dreamers and doers. While the seven-time world champion has turned most of his dreams into reality, there are some that are beyond his control. One of those dreams is of a race on the African continent and now it seems it could be a reality in 2023.

Formula 1 is currently flirting with the idea of expanding its schedule. In 2022 alone, we’ll have 23 races, but the regulations allow for a maximum of 30 races. And F1 could stretch the calendar until that.

After all, they’re on a mission to make the sport as global as it can be, touching down in as many countries and cultures as it can. And one of those countries could be on African soil.

F1 could head back to Morocco for the first time since 1958 or to South Africa in its 2023 season. CEO Stefano Domenicali says, “We are in contact with Africa.”

Lewis Hamilton had expressed his desire for a race in Africa very recently

Earlier in November, Hamilton had revealed that a race in South Africa is very ‘dear to his heart‘. He explained that it’s ‘most important’ for him that Formula 1 goes to the African continent.

“I think there’s a great following out there, and I think it would be great to be able to highlight just how beautiful the motherland is,” Hamilton said as reported in Sports Casting.

But as important and as dear as it may be to Hamilton, there are some obstacles, or rather more options, in contention for a race on the calendar.

Domenicali reveals the track he wants most in F1

The CEO of F1 described that while there is interest from the US for a third race and from East Asia, it’s the circuits in Deutschland that he wishes for most – “Believe me: I would like to see Germany on stable feet with us for a long time.”

But, because of political and financial reasons, Germany may not feature on the F1 calendar for a while. This in Domenicali’s view is quite regretful, considering the massive following of motorsports in Germany.

Still, if it doesn’t work out, F1 may turn to newer countries, including one in Africa.

So, Sir Lewis Hamilton’s dream of F1 returning to motherland could soon turn into a reality. And if it doesn’t happen the Domenicali way, you wouldn’t rule past Hamilton making it happen himself in a few years.
