Lewis Hamilton has almost achieved everything that Formula One has to offer. And as he often mentions, he owes a lot of his success to his father, Anthony, for the sacrifices he made to make Hamilton the 7-time world champion that he is. Hamilton has always been really grateful for the role of his father in his life. But here is a shocking revelation.

Anthony was fired by his son from the position of his manager in early 2010, which, as the Brit mentioned, broke his heart.

In the ‘Lewis Hamilton’ episode of ‘My Next Guest Needs no Introduction with David Letterman’, Anthony revealed how he felt parting ways with Lewis as his manager.

When asked if the decision was mutual, the father of the world champion replied, “Definitely not. Broke my heart. From the time he started at eight years of age, we used to have a father-son ‘Be careful, love you, do the best you can’ handshake.”

“Every time he went out on the race. And in 2010, that was it. It all just stopped. Yeah, it was hard. We didn’t communicate for probably that year and the second year,” said Anthony.

But since then, Hamilton and his father have surely mended the bridges. The Mercedes driver even recalled the moment when he won his 7th title and had flashbacks of his childhood with his father.

The Brit won his seventh world championship in a remarkable fashion with the drive of the year in the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix. With the win, he tied the record with Michael Schumacher as a 7-time world champion. Hamilton emotionally dedicated his win to his father and recalled his childhood memories with him.

“I came across the line, and all the things about me and my dad — when we went away from our first championship singing ‘We Are the Champions,’ the struggles that we had — it just flashed through my mind, and all this emotion came up,” said Hamilton.
