The most experienced guy on the grid, Fernando Alonso, has decided to change his name ahead of the 2023 F1 season. The new Aston Martin inductee wants to officially include his mother’s surname in his name. This comes almost a year after Lewis Hamilton did the same when he decided to add his mother’s name, Larbalestier, to his name.

As reported by GPBlog, the former McLaren driver is to add ‘Diaz’ after his name ‘Fernando Alonso’ from now on, given his mother’s name is Ana Maria Diaz Martinez. This has recently come to light after FIA published the entry list for next year’s F1 drivers.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton thought of changing his name, much like Fernando Alonso or Sergio Perez, whose full name is ‘Sergio Perez Mendoza’. The Briton decided to put his mother’s name with the ‘Hamilton’ name in March 2022.
