Michael Schumacher has not made a public appearance since his skiing accident in the Alps back in 2013. The German was initially put in a medically induced coma but has seen his conditions improve since then. However, a few years ago Lewis Hamilton made certain comments about Schumacher’s accident that were quite shocking.

In an interview back in 2014, Hamilton said, “He’s a legend in the sport, you know, who has achieved so much, a very motivated individual.” 

He went on to add, “So I feel like all things happen for a reason. I think that this is an experience that will really show his character and depth and even more so than any other experiences he’s had.”

Hamilton intended to show support for the 7-time world champion. Since then, he has gone on to equal the German’s record of 7-world titles. However, this season has been a struggle for the Briton so far.

Michael Schumacher nearly avoided the 2013 skiing accident reveals his wife Corinna

Michael Schumacher was known to be an adrenaline junkie, spending most of his time after retirement skydiving or skiing. However, it was a skiing accident in the French Alps back in 2013 that gave him a brain injury.

His wife Corinna revealed how Schumacher was initially concerned about the snow levels. She said, “Shortly before (the accident) happened in Méribel, he said to me, ‘The snow isn’t optimal. We could fly to Dubai and go skydiving there”.

Schumacher had everything in place to shift his plans elsewhere. However, he still went through with the initial plan which led to the mishap.

Speaking on the accident Corinna said, “It was just really bad luck – all the bad luck anyone can have in life”.

She went on to add, “It’s always terrible when you say, ‘Why is this happening to Michael or us?’ But then why does it happen to other people?”

Since then, his health has improved at a slow pace. In 2014, the Telegraph reported the racer was “paralysed and in a wheelchair”.
