And this part is one that has been going on the longest. But to put an end to all speculations with his witty comment, Nicolas Hamilton has displayed one of the classic instances of sibling rivalry.

Ever since the start of this season, the 7-time champion has given different kinds of updates on his 2024 contract. Some were very vague, others a bit more concrete. But the contract paper still remains unsigned. So, when F1 posted a photo of what the 2024 grid looks like as of now, George Russell was the lone driver in the Mercedes lineup albeit with a smile. The graphic where Hamilton’s face should be was left empty. This is where Nicolas Hamilton chimed in.

F1 captioned the post: “Our 2024 grid… as it stands 👀”. And in the comments, “Lewis out, me in! 😉”, said Nicolas. With this witty comment, he got the most number of likes of any under the post – the number stands at around 25K now. Who knows, maybe this might even be true considering that he too is a professional racer. But Lewis Hamilton’s sibling-esque reply is still awaited.

While Nicolas’ comment will sure bring some interestingly humorous theories afloat, his brother’s appreciation of the Brackley outfit should hint at the contract almost getting signed.

Delaying Hamilton’s contract closure is the name of the game for Mercedes. What Toto Wolff planned to finalize over a “cup of coffee”, has taken an eternity. But the Briton is still persistent. Furthermore, his admiration for the team’s all-round efforts should confirm that it is only a matter of time before the contract is signed.

“I’ve been incredibly proud of everybody.,” Hamilton told ESPN. “Everyone has been working insanely hard. We’ve been making big steps. We have a better understanding of where to position the car. It’s been a lot more consistent – podiums, top-five finishes – which has been great. And, generally, we’ve been getting solid, great reliability. So, there’s lots and lots of good bits.”
