Being a capable midfield challenger for many years, calling the 2023 season a “disappointment” for the Woking-based squad would be an understatement. A variety of issues have plagued McLaren, which has tumbled the side down to 6th in the constructors’ standing with merely 17 points. Despite a series of challenges, the teams’ and drivers’ ambition to bounce back more powerfully is what makes this sport so thrilling. This is exactly what has been on display by Lando Norris who remains excited about the Papaya Army’s new plans as the recent upgrades have failed to deliver.

At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, McLaren made some significant changes to live up to their hopes and reintroduce the drivers to the midfield battle. Norris and Oscar Piastri, however, were unable to establish the team as a competitive midfield rival due to the unpredictable nature of the MCL60. Performances like the Spanish GP and the Miami GP are still haunting the team.

Nevertheless, there was progress for McLaren in the Canadian Grand Prix. And considering recent developments, the team will soon devise an ambitious upgrade plan as the MCL60 is getting ready to undergo significant component improvements over the course of the following races starting in Austria. The whole crew is thrilled by the news, but Lando Norris is particularly delighted about the new plans and awaiting the roll-out of a ‘B-Spec’ car.

According to Speedcafe, the Briton stated that of the upcoming development,”I look forward to anything that’s new. It’s been a lot of work that’s gone into it. We’ve been quite patient with what we’ve had; we’ve been chipping away at many other things at the same time.”

When the team finished 3rd in the constructor’s championship in 2020, McLaren was in full throttle. Although the team only experienced a steady decline after that. In addition, the recent weeks have been a nightmare for the Papaya army, and amidst that its team principal Andrea Stella has offered some encouraging remarks.

Max Verstappen’s racing this season has given us all the impression that nine or ten seconds mean little in the Formula 1 world. However, in reality even a single second counts in racing with cars traveling at speeds higher than 200 kph. Mercedes took a major stride ahead, then Aston Martin, and it appears that McLaren will now make the significant modifications necessary to take advantage of the most recent improvements.

According to Motorsport Italy, team principal Andrea Stella said, “I would say that practically the whole car has been modified.” Later while elaborating it more for the fans, he added, “I’m counting on this new package. But in the three races in which we will introduce it, the improvements should consist of a few tenths of a second, and it will be evident from the point of view of the lap time.”
