It is absolutely imperative that every human being’s freedom and human rights are respected all over the world. An East African government has passed a heart-rending law, leaving Lewis Hamilton downhearted. The seven-time-world champion has urged the government to undo the wrongdoing and his supporters have joined in his campaign to make things right.

The government of Uganda has passed a law that makes it a crime to identify as a member of the LQBTQ community with repercussions being as severe as the death penalty in specific cases. It is one of the hardest pieces of legislation against LGBTQ in Africa. Acts of homosexuality were already illegal in Uganda and this law makes identifying as one illegal too, with friends and family having the duty to report such acts.

Hamilton recently reacted to a post on Instagram posted by Pubity, which highlighted the law passed by the Ugandan government and shared it as his story. While sharing the story, Briton wrote “As if the world doesn’t have enough problems. this is so disappointing. Uganda government you need to undo this immediately”. From the tone of the message, it can easily be figured that Lewis is beyond devastated. Despite the efforts of many including Hamilton, there are still places that fail to provide these basic rights of freedom to their people.

Lewis Hamilton has always been vocal about the social issues going around the world. The Brit actively uses his social media presence to highlight these issues and takes a stand against them. Hamilton wasn’t comfortable racing in Saudi Arabia portraying the LGBTQ laws in the country as terrifying. As a symbol of support for the LQBTQ and a stand to highlight the issue, Hamilton raced with a helmet that had the pride flag on it.

Hamilton’s fans have joined him in standing with LGBTQ people and supporting them through this suffering.

People join forces with Lewis in the fight for LGBTQ rights

“love isnt a crime.”
