Fans have known Barcelona as the home of the Spanish GP for more than 30 years. The passionate Spaniards are always on the track to support the home heroes Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. But in a not-so-surprising turn of events, Madrid has taken the title of Spanish GP away from Barcelona. Yet, despite Madrid being titled as the Spanish GP, the future of Barcelona remains in the dark. What will the Barcelona GP be called? Let’s see what Stefano Domenicali said about the same.

Toward the end of last year, rumors of a Madrid GP came out. This rumor came out as a part of F1’s plan to increase the total number of races to 30 by the year 2030. About a week ago, it was suggested that Stefano Domenicali has given the green flag to the Madrid GP and that the announcement will be made in the coming days. Well, today is the day the announcement was made. The Madrid GP will be on the calendar till 2035, i.e. a 10-year contract with F1.

And even before the official announcement was made, the city of Madrid showed signs of confirmation. This included the Metro and buses in the city covered in Formula 1 Gran Premio De España and Vuel Ve La F1 A Madrid Vinyl, which translated to F1 returns to Madrid. Even the seats inside the metro had the Chequered flag pattern on them. Madrid homeboy, Carlos Sainz will finally have a race in the town that he was born in. 

According to ifema.es, Stefano Domenicali said, “Madrid is an incredible city, with a long history of hosting some of the biggest sporting events in the world. Today’s announcement begins an exciting new chapter for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will see Madrid become a benchmark for European races on the F1 calendar.“

He added, “I would like to thank the team at IFEMA MADRID for putting together a fantastic proposal that epitomizes Formula 1’s vision to create a multi-day spectacle of sport and entertainment that maximizes values for fans, whilst embracing innovation and sustainability. We look forward to working with the team to bring the race to Madrid and welcome in a new era for the Spanish Grand Prix.”

According to ifema.es, Isabel Diaz Ayuso said, “This event, which we expect to be followed on a global scale by 70 million people, will represent an increase of more than 4,500 million euros in Madrid’s GDP and the creation of 8,200 jobs.
