Max Verstappen had an underwhelming race at the Turkish Grand Prix. The Dutchman was flying during the practice sessions. His major competition, the Silver Arrows, were starting outside the Top-5. The Red Bull car looked ready for a win and the drivers seemed prepared for a podium celebration after the race.
However, Max Verstappen did not have the best of start to the race; his RB 16 failed to pick up well and fell behind by several cars at the start. Nonetheless, Verstappen fought back hard and climbed back the lost positions.
Unfortunately, Verstappen suffered a spin that resulted in flat tyre spots. He had clocked in the fastest lap before returning to the pit following this spin. Things seemed completely out of sync after the pit stop.

Verstappen revealed, “Everything went wrong. My front wing turned out to be completely incorrectly adjusted. I was seven degrees short on one side. That is really a lot.
“Normally you only adjust one degree there, or something similar. What do you want, as a driver? Almost nothing works then.”

Helmut Marko believes Max Verstappen was impatient
Helmut Marko also explained the reason behind Red Bull’s problems during Istanbul. He said, “We used a new front wing in Istanbul. The thread for adjustment goes in the opposite direction than the old one. A wrong adjustment was made.”
Talking about Verstappen’s performance, Helmut Marko opined that the Dutchman seemed to lack some patience pushing Stroll and Perez.

He stated that Verstappen could have used a little more patience. He explained, “He just saw that Stroll was driving away from the front. But because there was no DRS, overtaking was de facto impossible.”
However, Verstappen defended himself and denied wanting to overtake Perez. He clarified, “I didn’t want that at all. It’s not that I was too eager there. I couldn’t do anything. I just wanted to hook up after him, but suddenly I understeered off the track.

“Then it was done. After that I almost only rode a train. The condition of the asphalt here was really ridiculous. With this front wing it will stop completely,” he further added.
Verstappen’s incident presented Hamilton with the opportunity to get ahead. The Briton eventually won the race and secured the Drivers’ Championship.
