Despite the splendid race at Austin and its nail-biting conclusion, the highlight of the day was Martin Brundle and his interview with Megan Thee Stallion. Evidently, the brief interaction has become the biggest taking point of the race weekend, with memes and also a lot of debate. Although Brundle tweeted about the necessity of respect on the F1 “patch,” the former driver wasn’t done yet.

In his analysis of the weekend for SkySports F1, the virtuoso wrote about the grid walk experience. Brundle did not hold back. In listing his experience with the sport, the onslaught began:

“I did chuckle on Monday. After all the blood, sweat, tears and broken bones, the glorious victories and dismal failures, the monstrous crashes, the quadruple stints on a treacherous rainy night in Le Mans, guiding a 1250 bhp flying bedstead through Monaco qualifying, along with 25 years of broadcasting…”

Brundle then concluded with a strong coup de grâce. “I’ve finally become mildly well known for being ignored by celebrities whilst simultaneously being swatted to one side by a man mountain and told off by a Malfoy lookalike doubtless attending his first F1 race.”

A firm statement on Brundle’s behalf; the incident was uncalled for. Although Megan Thee Stallion was relatively welcoming, Brundle’s problems lie with the disregard shown by her posse.

A recap on the Martin Brundle interview

Martin Brundle had only just brought back his beloved grid walk to the US GP. Because of COVID guidelines, journalists and media personnel were not allowed on the paddock before the race. At the US GP, this restriction was lifted.

As Brundle fully used this opportunity, he stumbled upon Texas’s very own rapper, Megan Thee Stallion. Her bodyguards surrounded her, especially one Brundle refers to as the “man mountain.”

Despite a bitter start with the bodyguard, Brundle attempted to make conversation with the rapper by asking her to freestyle. Although a rather odd question to begin with, the assistant’s behavior towards Brundle remains unwarranted.

The “Malfoy-lookalike” pushed Brundle aside, telling him he “can’t do that”; to which Brundle sharply replied, “I can, because I did.”

Regardless, Brundle looks back on the experience as entertaining. “My grid walk return after two years was probably a bit too cheeky in Austin but nonetheless a lot of fun.”

Hopefully, Brundle gets a lot more time on the paddock with a lot more celebrities. Optimistically, celebrities with friendlier chaperones who don’t remind him of Harry Potter.
