On Saturday, legendary motorsport racing driver, Mario Andretti tweeted exciting news about the Andretti Autosport, led by his son, and the buzz hasn’t subsided ever since. The Italian-American revealed that Michael Andretti had initiated talks with the FIA over a potential F1 entry as a new team.

Well, of course, it initially did look like Andretti’s Formula One dream might take a bit longer to accomplish considering the sport’s hesitancy to include any additional team onto the grid. However, turns out, the talks could well go through successfully amidst Andretti Sr’s recent comments.

What did Mario Andretti say?
In an exclusive interview with RACER, Mario affirmed that his son is cherishing massive backing from a couple of ‘solid individuals’ who could be key in completing the F1 entry for Andretti.
“To be honest with you all along he had this idea of, ‘Well, if this doesn’t work we might have to start our own team.’ So he started working, he started talking about possible connections,” he said.

“That’s how he pretty much lined himself up with an engine supplier and some of the aspects where, if you don’t have anything like that at least promised then what’s the point? Also, he has some very, very interesting and powerful individuals ready to come onboard as soon as this thing becomes official, with how to guide him and how to be involved in a start-up operation.”

Mario acknowledges huge responsibility in F1
Mario, however, acknowledged that he wouldn’t disclose any more details about the anonymous individuals until the deal becomes official.
“I cannot mention these individuals now until it’s official, but he’s done his homework to the point where I said, ‘You know, Michael, I’m going to say something about it,’ and he said, ‘OK, just don’t tell them everything!’ I just can’t sit back and not share some of this with the fans,” he added.
