Mario Andretti Reveals Bernie Ecclestone’s Pivotal Role in His F1 Dreams

Well, it looks like Formula One might get a new team very soon. Former F1 world champion Mario Andretti mentioned that his son Michael is planning to enter the sport and might be getting the Andretti F1 team as early as the 2024 season.

The current F1 teams have signed the Concorde agreement in which they’re bound to stay in the sport till 2025. So the entry of a new team might be difficult because of the agreement but the American mentioned he has support from FIA and former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

Andretti gets support to get in the sport from former F1 boss

As reported by The Racer, the former Ferrari driver mentioned Michael has applied to the FIA to form his own team. They’re still waiting to get approval from the teams in the sport. Andretti also revealed that he has been getting support from former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

“It’s in there. It’s absolutely with the key people. All of this has been going on and at the moment I think it’s a matter of them getting approval from the teams and all of that what has to happen. There are several steps that they have to take which is part of it.

I’ve been in touch with Bernie (Ecclestone, former F1 chairman) — he and I have been speaking and I’ve been getting a lot of guidance as well. He’s the one who implemented a lot of these rules,” said Mario Andretti.

“We’re on it. We’re on it in all those aspects — we’re not going in here blindly. Anything that has been asked of us — guarantees and whatever — we comply. So if there’s anything more they need from us, we’re ready to respond. That’s the way it is. That’s where we are,” said the former world champion.

It would be interesting to have the Andretti F1 team in the sport if the agreement goes through. Michael had previously made a bid to enter the sport by attempting to buy the Sauber team last year, but the deal fell through. Let’s see if we get the name Andretti back in the sport or not.
