Max Verstappen’s battle to the 2021 crown

Max will forever be Formula 1 2021 season champion. No one can take that from him. He was incredible all year round. And fought off one of the sport’s most ruthless winners. But the circumstances of his last race win will always be a point of discussion. Helmut comments on the amount of politics involved as they fought off Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

Marko also explains how the challenge against Lewis was different. Max, a younger driver compared to Lewis, came in and snagged the title from right under his nose.

“It was different with Lewis Hamilton: He is much older, he was the king whose throne was shaken by a much younger one. From a psychological point of view, this is a completely different requirement.” Helmut commented.

Now there’s a new rivalry brewing with Mercedes lacking in terms of performance. The Ferrari team comprising Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz is the pair to beat. “With Ferrari, there is a better relationship. What’s more: Max is now driving against Leclerc, they grew up together in karting, have known each other for a long time, are a generation.” Marko explained the relationship between the pair.

A Formula 1 relationship is like walking on thin ice. It only takes a second, a crash, a comment, or even a maneuver to ruin things. However, it will be interesting to see how Red Bull tackles the challenge of Ferrari in the current season.
