The start of the 2022 season is getting closer and closer with each passing day. Every F1 fan is eagerly waiting to see how the teams would fare with the new regulations and the budget cap introduced in this season. Everyone is expecting that the grid would be packed closer and there would be more competition between the teams. But Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko expects Red Bull and Mercedes to be fast again this season.

I only see the progress that we are making: Red Bull advisor Marko

As reported by Motorsport-Total, Marko provided an update regarding the development of the 2022 Red Bull car. He mentioned that the Austrian team was making progress with each passing day and he expects them to be at the front of the grid.

“I only see the progress that we are making, and that is significant. Because in principle – when we drove at full speed – the two of them lapped the field,” said Marko on the 2022 Red Bull development.

“There is no reason to think that Mercedes and we are not the favorites this year. Mercedes and we have the potential, the people, and the continuity. That speaks again for a fight at the highest level. Especially since there are no other drivers like [Lewis] Hamilton and [Max] Verstappen,” said Marko.

While Marko may not consider Ferrari a threat for the 2022 season, Mattia Binotto mentioned that they have made gains on the engine side going into 2022. The Italian mentioned it impressed him that the team could get through the last eight races of 2021 with no hiccups.

“The fact that we managed to do these eight races before the end was a great achievement by the team, which felt the responsibility and tried to work as hard as it could and introduce the engine as early as possible,” said Mattia.

It would be interesting to see if Ferrari can challenge Red Bull and Mercedes next season. It would be good for the sport to see more competition at the front of the grid and closer racing between the teams.
