Aston Martin’s entry into the 2023 season was believed to be spoiled when the news of Lance Stroll’s injury came out. His return remains unknown, and Fernando Alonso will be up with Felipe Drugovich for the pre-season testing in Bahrain, where the former will understandably be running the show for the team.

Alonso has been ridiculed by fans for several claims that he has made for the team. The claims themselves appeared shocking, as once he even put up Lance Stroll’s name for the chamOKpionship. But from what it appears already, he might not have been joking, as the Spaniard has already started spewing his magic on the team. And this has sparked rumors of a strong comeback by the team after a disappointing season last year, with fans claiming the team would be second to none.

As the Race reports, “Aston Martin AMR23’s tunnel numbers are very good. As in, not just good by midfield team standards, but actually good, really good,” which is indicative that the team might just jump the entire midfield from the current position as a backmarker. Or at the very least, get comfortable on the front end of the midfield.

It is believed that the reason behind the sudden jump is the appointment of former Red Bull chief of aerodynamics, Dan Fallows, as its technical director. Nevertheless, the rumors will be confirmed very soon. And while we must look at them with skepticism, there is always a chance of surprise (looking right at Brawn GP).

Esteban Ocon approves of the rumors

Esteban Ocon worked closely with Alonso for two years at Alpine. And though he doesn’t approve of the notion that his former teammate is behind the team’s reported wind tunnel success, he surely approves that it is a fast car.

As quoted by Planet F1, he said, “Everybody’s been talking about it. I don’t know if it’s the Fernando effect, or that it’s going to be fast. But it looks like a very quick car from whenever you look at the aero side of things and from the outside, so it’s looking like a strong contender.”
