The 2020 season has been rough for Ferrari. Tattered with issues right from the very first race, Ferrari is riding rough this season. However, even amidst the darkness, young Charles Leclerc has been the beacon of hope. Team Principal Mattia Binotto believes that he holds the ability to retrace the paths of Michael Schumacher.
Leclerc has been with Ferrari since 2016. Joining the Ferrari Driver Academy, he worked his way up the ladder. A successful season in Sauber in 2018, saw Scuderia Ferrari scoop him up for the 2019 season. Growing up under the boughs of Ferrari, Leclerc has taken baby steps in Formula 1 world. However, he is well aware of the value of Ferrari and aims to fetch maximum results for them.
“He grew up with us. He knows the values of Ferrari and is very close to us. He’s part of our special family, and he knows it too”, Binotto stated.

Charles Leclerc joined the Italian side when they are struggling to fight the Championship race. However, even amidst all difficulties, Leclerc stepped up and owned the races. His fighting mentality and never give up attitude sets him apart from his contemporaries.
“I think that one day he will be able to say: ‘These difficulties were useful to me,’. He has the talent and is growing into a leader in these difficult times.”
Michale Schumacher is an absolute legend. His legacy for Ferrari and Formula 1 is not unknown. Very rarely do we see any youngster being compared with him. However, Leclerc’s racing style and the zeal to win have already brought forth his comparison with Schumacher.
“I often talk to him about Schumacher, who joined the team in 1996 and became world champion in 2000,” says Binotto.
Mattia is confident that he has the talent to be this generation’s Schumacher. “He can repeat this path”, he states.
