This season, it’s looked as though whatever Red Bull has demanded of Max Verstappen, he’s delivered—be it the quickest in qualifying, setting the fastest lap in a race, winning a race, or even delivering the team’s 100th win, he’s done it without question. Owing to his latest escapade at the Austrian GP, Red Bull’s home race, he handed the team its 101st win—42 of which have been his. And maybe it’s time Red Bull fulfills one of his demands.

The Red Bull Ring, home of the Austrian GP, is owned by the Austrian energy drinks company. In 2004, Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz bought Jaguar F1 and rebranded it to Red Bull Racing after purchasing the A1 Circuit in Austria and renaming it the Red Bull Ring. Since then, the Austrian GP has been Red Bull’s home race, and the team has ensured that it performs well there every chance it gets. And that has been the case for the past few years.

Max Verstappen makes it five wins in a row with his fifth win at the Red Bull Ring

Four races into the season, it looked as though Red Bull teammates Verstappen and Sergio Perez were going to fight each other for the title. But those hopes slowly died when Verstappen switched to a different gear and practically drove five errorless races, opposed to his teammate’s form. And now, after winning his fifth race in a row, he’s 81 points ahead of him in the championship.

According to a video posted on Twitter, Verstappen was reminded of a demand he had made in the past after the race. The interviewer said, “We have on note saying from you before, if you won here five times, we might rename this the Verstappen ring.” Verstappen’s wins in Austria started in 2018. Since then, he’s won here in 2019, twice in 2021 (the Austrian and Styrian GP), and last night, making it five wins at the track.

After being reminded of this, Max quickly responded, “Yeah I have to talk to the bosses now, so let’s see, I’ll call them tomorrow; one by one.” Considering how dominant he’s been this season and on this track, Dietrich Mateschitz might be getting a call from him soon. Even though he meant it as a joke, could the Red Bull owner really oblige? If he does, Lewis Hamilton might have a demand of his own.

Could the Hungaroring be renamed the Hamilton Ring?

Considering Lewis Hamilton’s performances at the Hungaroring in Hungary, Verstappen’s five wins at the Red Bull Ring aren’t anything to write home about. The seven-time world champion has won the Hungarian GP at Hungaroring a whopping eight times. He holds the record for the most number of wins at the same track.

If Red Bull obliges Verstappen’s demand to name the circuit Verstappen Ring, could Lewis Hamilton push to get the Hungarorong named after him? Given that Verstappen’s team owns the circuit he wants to be renamed, there’s a higher chance his request might be fulfilled. The same can’t be said for Hamilton and Mercedes, though.
