Lando Norris’ highly anticipated first F1 victory has turned Max Verstappen into the Gina D’Acampo of F1. The Italian celebrity chef publicized an Italian proverb into one of the most iconic memes of this century – “If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike”. F1’s reigning champ Verstappen has now provided the world with an X-rated version of this Yiddish-origin saying.

The 2024 Miami GP was a star-studded affair. Kendall Jenner, Camila Cabello, Ed Sheeran, Patrick Mahomes, and various other A-listers lit up the Miami International Autodrome. But McLaren’s Lando Norris took over the limelight by winning his first-ever F1 race, breaking his unwanted streak of 15 podiums without a win.

Max Verstappen was clear of all rivals till his first pit stop. Lando Norris took the race lead once the 3-time champ went for a tire change. Unfortunately, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen collided with home favorite Logan Sargeant, bringing out the safety car. McLaren quickly summoned Norris into the pits for his first pit stop to take advantage of the 8 seconds saved under the safety car. Theron, the Briton retained the race lead and crossed the chequered flag with his engineers cheering him on.

In a post-race interview, Verstappen was asked: “Do you feel Lando also could have won the race without a free pit stop, given how quick he was on the Hard tire?” The Dutchman replied, saying, “I don’t know what the gap was, to be honest, before the Safety Car. How far were you behind me?” he questioned Norris, sitting on his left.

It would have been tough,” Norris countered. “I would have had to overtake two Ferraris, a Red Bull, Oscar. Oscar (Piastri) was doing a very good job, so hats off to him.” Verstappen channeled his inner comedian to highlight the ‘if this, then that’ nature of the reporter’s question. “I mean, it’s always if, if, if, right?  If my mum had balls, she would be my dad. So, yeah. I mean, it’s how it goes to racing. Sometimes it works out for you, sometimes it doesn’t.

The Red Bull driver seemed to be in an unusually merry mood despite not continuing to dominate his rivals. Maybe the fact that his closest friend won the race kept his spirits high. Verstappen even made a mockery of his costly mistake in the same interview.

Max Verstappen hilariously ridicules himself for his “crash test” at the Miami GP

Max Verstappen narrowly cost Red Bull a DNF in Miami. He was comfortably sailing out in front. Around Lap 20, however, he lost some control of his RB20 in Turn 15, taking out a bollard with his front wing. The vertical post damaged the floor of his car with a hole, which was later revealed as the reason for his lack of pace compared to Lando Norris.

In the post-race press conference, the host asked Verstappen about this incident. “I didn’t like it (the bollard), so I decided to take it out and test the durability of the front wing as well,” he jokingly replied. So that’s a crash test done. Yeah, there was no damage. The cone was out of the way for everyone, so it was basically a free-for-all after that.”
