Max Verstappen Cheekily Avoids the Ire of His Girlfriend Kelly Piquet

In what may have been the most grueling Grill the Grid episode yet, drivers listed out as many F1 champions as they could recall. Max Verstappen fumbled a bit but made sure he got an important one right. Putting his thinking cap on, Verstappen, luckily, named the 1987  champ correctly.

Nelson Piquet won the 1987 season, twelve points ahead of Nigel Mansell. And Verstappen, contending champion, is dating the Brazilian driver’s daughter. Getting the answer wrong wouldn’t have ended well for Max back home at family dinners. Eyes wide with relief, Verstappen said, “luckily I got that one right!”

Kelly Piquet and Max Verstappen’s relationship caused quite a stir in the F1 community, but the two seem to be extremely happy as Piquet frequents the paddock.

Max dating the daughter of a three-time-world champion should come with added benefits, but the Dutchman believes his career is his own. He once said, Of course he’s a legend in Formula 1. It is my own career. I make my own choices and I will never compare myself to other drivers. That just suits me better.”

The Brazilian model used to date Daniil Kvyat, whose seat Max took at Red Bull. The couple had made their relationship public sometime earlier this year. However, rumors had been circulated prior to that, as the two frequented parties together.

Piquet has been extremely supportive of the Red Bull star, as seen in what could be one of the sweetest captures of the Monaco GP. She has been traveling with Max and was spotted in Austria as well.

Max also finds immense comfort in the model as he went back to the house they share in Monaco following his harrowing crash at Silverstone.

As Verstappen spends his summer break with his beau, it’s likely the stress of the first half of the season wears off. Heading into Spa on the 29th, Max will have to come back stronger than ever to recoup his place on the top.
