The onset of the new season hasn’t been the way Max Verstappen wanted. The Dutchman would’ve never thought his first race as the defending champion would end on such a tragic note. Naturally, Max was angry on radio calls. However, when asked about it, he has revived why he was furious.

The Bahrain Grand Prix has been an absolute disaster for Red Bull. Both the Bulls came to a halt before they could cross the finishing line due to suspected fuel pump issues. Verstappen resorted to the pit, while Perez spun, going into the first corner after his engine ceased on the last lap.

 

After the Bahrain Grand Prix, the defending champion talked to Adam Cooper, a renowned F1 journalist. Talking about his radio calls during the race, Verstappen conveyed, “I don’t hold back, I say what I think in the car, and I was not happy with what we were doing or with the balance of the car or with the strategy. It wasn’t necessarily directed to GP…”

What happened with Max Verstappen during the race?

Verstappen seemed unhappy with his car right from the beginning. The Dutchman was taking to his engineer on the radio. From finding the car difficult to drive to losing power, the defending champion conveyed everything to the Red Bull pitlane.

Max’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, noted down all the issues. Apart from the suspected fuel pump issue, the 24-year-old faced a couple of other challenges while he was racing. The #1 Red Bull car also became hard to steer after Max’s final pit stop of the race.

Max Verstappen has been vocal about his problems throughout the race. Although this is a way to let your rivals know that you’re in trouble, the Red Bull man thought to let it all out on the radio.

Interestingly, three out of four Red Bull cars suffered technical problems in Bahrain. Other than the 2 Red Bulls, it was Pierre Gasly’s AlphaTauri. Gasly also had his car on fire midway through the race. This means that the Red Bull engineers now not only have to fight Ferrari but also the reliability issues of their RB18 before coming to Saudi Arabia this weekend.
