The Canadian GP coincided with Father’s Day this year. While the world rested and celebrated Father’s Day, the F1 drivers were mentally locked in for the race. As we know, for Max Verstappen‘s dad, victory on the racetrack is all that matters. In an interview, Verstappen said a win in Montreal was exactly the gift that he wanted to gift his dad. But his comments on his relationship with girlfriend Kelly Piquet’s daughter, Penelope, were what made for a wholesome moment.

Verstappen is an avid sim racer as well. He often streams races on Twitch with his friends. And sometimes, Penelope walks up to him during those streams and distracts him with hugs and kisses. But Verstappen is always patient in dealing with her, creating lovable interactions for viewers. Once again, he has opened up about the pure relationship that he has with her.

In an interview before the Canadian GP, the Dutchman was asked if he completes “Stepdad” duties. In reply, Verstappen said, “Well it’s a part of it all, isn’t it? No, for me it’s really nice and sweet.” Commenting on the cute interactions during sim races, he said, “And of course those streams we do together, you need a lot less concentration for that. She just thinks like ‘Fun! screens! steering wheel!’.”

It is also common for children to gift drawings to their parents on such occasions. But for Verstappen, receiving such drawings is a regular occurrence. He said, “Yes I get those (drawings) every now and then.”

Not only did he receive gifts from his stepdaughter, but the 2-time champion also gave a very meaningful gift to his dad.

Max Verstappen’s Gift for His Dad, Jos Verstappen

Most F1 fans are aware of Max Verstappen and his relationship with his father, Jos Verstappen. Though his dad is a taskmaster, Verstappen still respects and reveres him. Maybe because his father has been very strict with him, he can be adorably patient with Penelope. It could be that Verstappen has learned a lot from his dad’s mistakes and makes next to none when dealing with Penelope.

In the same interview, Verstappen was also asked about his relationship with his father. He said, “Well I think winning the race is always a good gift. I think that will make my dad the happiest. So of course, we’re gonna try going for that.” And as we saw, he has very easily delivered that gift in Canada. Verstappen won the Canadian GP, bringing home his 6th win of the season. With that performance, Red Bull extended their lead in the Constructors’ championship. They now have 321 points to their name, 154 points more than Mercedes at P2.
