The last few races have seen Mercedes make a huge jump in performance, which has seen them fight at the front of the grid. This boost has seen an unexpected beneficiary in Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen. The question one may ask is how?
The answer is Mercedes’s revival poses a hindrance for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc, who are chasing Red Bull and the defending F1 world champion in the title race. Max Verstappen was questioned about the Brackley outfit’s recent form in an interview.
The Dutchman joked about it and said, “No, it’s good that they are competitive because then they can steal more points off Ferrari. So I’m very happy.”

The last race in Hungary saw just that, with Max Verstappen taking victory after a stellar drive. As the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell rounded out the podium in France, Ferrari missed out on more precious points in an already losing battle.

Max Verstappen had a far from ideal qualifying; ending up 10th on the grid due to engine issues. However, the Dutchman put in a stellar drive to win the race and extend his lead atop the driver’s standings. After the race driver revealed the exact moment he realized he could win the Hungarian GP.
Hailing his strategy, the Red Bull driver said, “We picked it at the right time, we put the right tyres on the car. I think that was most important today, to have the grip. Slowly we were just moving forward, then that final pit-stop was very good, and then I saw Charles was struggling a lot on the Hard tyre, so that was my moment to try and attack him.”
