Red Bull‘s domination is admirable, but it’s rarely thrilling. Because, at the moment, their crushing brilliance seems to be making the races dull. But didn’t every era in F1 have at least one team that’s the fastest of all? Yes, but it’s up to the other teams on the grid to rise to that level and bring the fight to them. But this time, the underperforming rivals, Ferrari and Mercedes, failed to mount a challenge. So, it’s no surprise questions are being raised about Red Bull’s dominance by the Formula 1 chatterati. But it’s important to understand that their success didn’t come overnight!

After being under Mercedes supremacy, Red Bull finally returned to where they wanted to be – at the very top. But the fact that they did it in such a dominant fashion frustrated the majority, craving for a close fight at the front. However, blaming Red Bull for being ahead of everyone else just makes no sense. Because even Red Bull struggled for success with an uncompetitive Renault power unit until they gambled on a switch to Honda engines in 2019. From then, they’ve put their heads down, did the work and it finally paid off after 6 years in 2021.

Speaking about the process, Max Verstappen told how he learned to have a lot of patience, as it took a while for Red Bull to actually break through Mercedes’ hegemony. After all, Verstappen came to his current team in 2016 and only became world champion for the first time five years later.

When asked what prevented Red Bull from competing for the title, Verstappen said, as quoted by F1Maximaal “At a certain point it just clicked from one year to the next. We really made a leap forward. In hindsight, of course, it’s easy to say: I saw this coming. You don’t know, but I believed in the process because I felt like something was coming.”

He then continued, “We had a few years where engine deals fell apart and then it was just a bit of a struggle. Sometimes we had a pretty solid package, but we fell short on top speed. That made it very difficult to show the true potential. Then came Honda, that was again a bit of a work in progress. But after a year we were already very competitive, which was great to see.”

Will the Red Bull win every race in the 2023 F1 season?

Red Bull’s dominant start to the season has everyone wondering the same thing: can Red Bull win every race this year? Looking at their success rate and pace advantage in the season, one would say it’s not impossible. Red Bull has won all five races, with four 1-2 finishes. And in terms of pace, there’s no one else to challenge them as the RB19 is almost a second clear from the rest. However, it will take an extraordinary amount of luck for Red Bull to win every Grand Prix.

Because even if one driver could break away and get ahead of the Red Bulls, it’d be a chance lost for Red Bull. And the Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso is looking for a chance just that! He said: “So to beat that perfection, you need something really special and you need to see some weak points from Max. At the moment, you don’t see it because he is in a comfortable position and he is extremely good so at the moment he seems unbreakable.”

“It is good to challenge those kinds of guys and see if there is any weakness in Max. That curiosity is growing because he is doing better and better every time.”
