The Lewis Hamilton Ferrari switch is the talk of the town, but while that gets the spotlight, Mercedes is on the move. With rumors of Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull surfacing around the tracks, Helmut Marko opens up about what is really going on with the Silver Arrows.

It’s no doubt that Mercedes is left puzzled by Hamilton leaving and in the commotion, Toto Wolff is waiting for the dust to settle before making his move. Helmut Marko joined Red Bull as an advisor in 2005 and comes with inside knowledge of the sport. And with Mercedes needing a new driver, they have their eyes on Verstappen, but Marko comes forth to end the chances.

Helmut Marko decided to talk to Sport.de about the Lewis Hamilton transfer. During the interview, Marko spoke about what the Silver Arrow could plan in the future. He sees Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari as a positive development for Formula 1. But that leaves Mercedes with a seat that they need to fill. Helmut addressed the rumors about Max Verstappen leaving and ruled it out.

But while Max will continue with Red Bull, Marko is prepared for the Silver Arrows to approach him to replace Hamilton. Helmut told Sport.de “Toto Wolff will try that – but he will be unsuccessful.” He then continued to explain that Max Verstappen’s “good memory” won’t let him forget the allegations from the 2021 Silverstone crash. Even the way the season finale panned out in 2021 is something that Max will not forget.

With that, the rumors of Max Verstappen leaving Red Bull have been debunked. Helmut also gave fans an idea of what he expects Mercedes’ next move after losing Hamilton. But all this commotion, for what? Just one thing to be honest; Lewis Hamilton’s goal is to become the first and only F1 driver to win eight Drivers’ Championships.

Helmut Marko gave more insight as to why Lewis Hamilton decided to abandon the Silver Arrows for the Prancing Horse. Marko believes there are two main reasons for Hamilton’s move. A “fascination with Ferrari” and Hamilton’s loss of faith in Mercedes.

According to Marko, Hamilton has lost faith in Mercedes, possibly due to their performance struggles since the major rule reform in 2022. Ever since then, the Silver Arrows have struggled to keep up and Hamilton has not won a Grand Prix since the end of 2021. This got to Hamilton and he left, but with his last Championship title in 2020, he is heading for a brighter future in Ferrari.
