Max Verstappen is rumored to leave Red Bull, and everyone is talking about it. There are many teams that he can jump into after the 2024 season and every team would want him now that he is the defending champion. But which team would Verstappen prefer? This is a question on everyone’s mind.

While many believe it’s Mercedes, that might not be the case. The Silver Arrows have still not gotten their car right and this would end Verstappen’s reign. Now, if Max wants to continue winning races and championships, he will need a car that can help him win. Something familiar maybe. Say, Honda?

As F1 Journalist Will Buxton recently made an appearance on ‘The Red Flags Podcast’, the topic at hand was everything F1 under the sun. When things steered towards Verstappen, Buxton said, “If Max leaves Red Bull, MH, I don’t think he’s going to Mercedes.” This is a surprising answer, knowing that Jos Verstappen has good ties with Toto Wolff.

Although Mercedes was the reason the rumors started, the F1 presenter said, “I think he’d go to Aston. Because, because he’d want—well because Aston Martin gets the Honda engines.” Max Verstappen is already used to driving the RB20 which houses a Honda Power Unit.

“And one of the major reasons that Max might be looking for a way out of Red Bull—way beyond any of the fallout, personal fallouts—is if the Red Bull powertrain is not showing the numbers for Ford that they were hoping or expecting,” Buxton explained.

“So, you would imagine, try to go to the team that is going to have the Honda engines as the factory unit, and that would be Aston Martin, who have also, we believe, just made an astronomical approach for Adrien Newey,” he concluded.

So with this, Will Buxton puts forward a strong argument as to why Aston Martin would be the way to go. Lawrence Stroll, the Aston Martin boss, is always trying to push the team forward. Does that mean he is in the market to acquire the Red Bull driver?

The billionaire Aston Martin boss is a busy man. Formula One is not where his main money lies, but where his passion lives. Stroll has put everything he can into the team and has saved the team from dying out. Recently, he has also invested in a wind tunnel, which could only help Aston Martin become more competitive. Having his son Lance on the team is an important factor for the owner, but success is the only thing he has time for.

Adding Max Verstappen to the roaster might just be one of the best ideas for Aston Martin at the moment. Lawrence Stroll has been rumored to have given Adrian Newey an offer to join the team. If the mastermind designer decides to join the Aston Martin bandwagon, it will be an easy transition for Verstappen to join the team. Having a team that knows you is always beneficial, and Newey is currently the hottest engineer in the sport. Along with that, Aston Martin will be moving to Honda Engines after the 2026 regulations change. So that’s again a win-win for Verstappen.

Bringing Newey and Verstappen to Aston Martin would be a great move for the team. And Verstappen’s familiarity with Honda might only make the offer more attractive. Ultimately, it might be interesting to see Max Verstappen win the World Champion title for a different team or probably in a less dominant car.
