Britain has been central to the motorsport world and still has a continuing dominance in Formula 1. For context, British drivers hold the record for winning more championships than any other country. Ten British drivers have won a total of 20 F1 world titles. Naturally, a legitimate question arises if there is a bias in British media while dealing with non-British drivers, most recently against Max Verstappen.

Jos Verstappen in a recent interview claimed that the sport is very British oriented, and the media has a role to play. However, he brushed off any impact of these alleged media wars on Max Verstappen.

Verstappen senior believes British media is biased

In a recent interview published by De Limburger, the Dutchman talked through various insights into his son’s career and his future. Moreover, when he was asked about the media wars these drivers are subjected to, he had a rather straightforward answer. He believes that the British media has grouped together against the Red Bull driver.

“The English flock to Lewis en masse and try to make a story out of everything. They often look for something that is not there. We’ve always been very open to the British press, but when you see things taken a few times out of context, you think, never mind,” said Jos as reported by De Limburger.

He went on to make a mention of former double WDC winner Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard had a long-standing rivalry with British legend Lewis Hamilton on the track.

Fernando Alonso recently pointed out that Formula 1 is very British oriented and the press plays a major role in this. He has experienced this himself in the past. Max doesn’t care, though. He draws his own plan,” added the Dutchman.

It is sour if Max Verstappen misses the title

Jos Verstappen has been an active companion through the Red Bull driver’s racing journey. Having been a racing driver himself, Jos understands the pressures and requirements of the sport. He found the right mix of hard training and fatherly embrace.

Now, Max is close to getting his maiden F1 title. He is currently ahead of Lewis Hamilton by eight points. The championship is all set to go down to the wire in Jeddah and next week’s Yas Marina circuit.
