Max Verstappen and Red Bull made their way to the podium at the Spanish Grand Prix after struggling profoundly in the initial stages. Now, Jos Verstappen has given his take on the entire episode that went about until Max finally won.

One of the highlights of the race was Verstappen being held back by George Russell. But a reliable Red Bull strategy finally gave Max the lead he had desired.

The race was arguably one of the most entertaining ones in the 2022 season. The beginning itself proved to be chaotic as Charles Leclerc brilliantly blocked Verstappen from making a move. In the lower orders, a touch between the cars of  Kevin Magnussen and Lewis Hamilton forced Magnussen off the track.

However, Russell blocking off Verstappen was a key moment, where Red Bull’s smart moves paid off after a while. Commenting on that, father Jos wrote this on his blog, “They changed the strategy. The decision to put Max on the softest tyre for the second time – in the third stint – gave him the chance to push.” The former Dutch driver also commented on the DRS- situation and wrote, “I have to say that I think Red Bull solved it insanely well.”

During the laps, when the 24-year-old visibly struggled, he expressed it. Shouting intensely down the radio, Verstappen was extremely frustrated with the irregularities of the DRS flap. As he trailed Russell, he arguably drove in anger, making this moment a crucial point for the race. Later, to several fans’ discontent, Sergio Perez was asked to give up his lead for Verstappen to pass. Understandably, this move has given rise to several controversial opinions.

Jos also felt that Verstappen Jr.’s anger was justified. He commented on those moments and clarified, “There is nothing wrong with that as far as I am concerned. He asks the utmost from the team, but that goes both ways. That’s why they are so successful together.” Jos further elucidated that Verstappen is a person who expresses his discontent, and the frustration was understandable.

Jos counts no one out of the championship race

The Dutchman also shed light on Ferrari’s and Mercedes’ developments and believes they shouldn’t be written off just yet, as he believes next weekend anything could happen. Notably, Mercedes took a stride with the car development, and they might soon compete for the wins.
