The Formula 1 world has been stunned by Nelson Piquet’s racial slur towards Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. The moment has led to many voicing their opinion against the three-time world champion for his choice of words. And now his daughter Kelly Piquet is in the line of fire as well.

Rodrigo Piquet, a relative of Nelson Piquet, came out firing in defense of the former Brazilian racing driver. He also shockingly revealed on the post that the racial term is a ‘word of love’, rather than an offensive term. The post defending the racial comments gathered attention and Kelly Piquet liked it. However, following the adverse reaction, the account is now private.

Notably, Kelly is also dating the F1 reigning champion Max Verstappen. Her father, who won three championships during the 1980s, used racial slurs towards Hamilton after his crash with Verstappen during the 2021 British GP.

The Mercedes driver ultimately won the race. However, Verstappen was rushed to the hospital for checks after a 51-G impact crash into the barriers.

Following the recent incident, the FIA and the entire F1 world took a stand against any form of racism. The likes of Charles Leclerc and George Russell also took to social media to back the seven time world champion.

Nelson Piquet is facing a huge backlash after his racial comments against Lewis Hamilton. And reports suggest that his official license to the paddock could be removed if he does not issue an apology to the British driver.

Following the comments, Hamilton himself took to social media to voice his opinion. He wrote, “It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport. I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”
