2021 was a controversial title win for Max Verstappen with all that happened in Abu Dhabi. But 2022 was undoubtedly his year and his title. He won the title with utmost domination across GPs, across weather conditions, and across various starting grid positions.

Verstappen has won 12 of the 18 races that have taken place this year. The Dutchman only requires 1 more victory from the remaining 4 races to equal Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of most wins in a season.

But the true representation of his season so far is shown in the varying conditions that he managed to snatch victories. Suzuka, last weekend was the best example of it.

The race was red-flagged after it started and then delayed for over 2 hours. With the rain pouring down and the title hanging in the balance, this was not what Max would have wanted.

The young driver, though, showed nerves of steel and great technical ability. In a shortened, 28-lap race he won with a very comfortable margin – 27 seconds. Commentators were heard saying “he could pedal home to victory” during the race because of the gap he found between himself and P2.

While other drivers struggled on the deluged tracks of the Japanese GP, Max found pace like none other. 

It goes to show his level of domination at the moment. Christian Horner said, “To do it with four races remaining, I mean, it’s truly a remarkable performance. And I think Max has been on another planet this year. He has dominated this championship, driven with such maturity, such conviction.”
