Max Verstappen’s mother Sophie Kumpen is over the moon that her son is now a world champion. However, she has admitted it wasn’t easy watching Max race as it caused her stress. She also revealed that she can finally understand what Lewis Hamilton’s mother has gone through over the years.
Formula One is a dangerous sport, and drivers are constantly risking everything to take home a win. Hence, it is understandable that Kumpen was worried for her son as he battled it out during the 2021 season.

Max Verstappen’s mom states she can understand what Hamilton’s mother must be going through
Lewis & Max have pushed each other to the limit throughout the 2021 campaign. Now, with the Red Bull prodigy finally becoming a world champion, his mother can relate to the emotions of Lewis’ mom.

Speaking to Talking to Dutch RTL Boulevard as quoted by GPBlog, she said, “I always wonder about [Lewis] Hamilton’s mother. She’s been living with stress for years, hasn’t she? It doesn’t go away with me, either. That’s Max too, always just over it and taking a bit of risk.”

How did Max perform this season?
The 2021 Formula One season was, without a question, the best we’ve seen in recent years. Throughout the 2021 season, Verstappen pushed Hamilton, his arch-rival and defending champion, to the limit.

In the title-deciding race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Dutch driver won the world championship. The 24-year-old finished the season with 10 wins, 10 pole positions, 18 podium finishes, and a total of 395.5 points.
