Max Verstappen has always been a fierce competitor, who wants to be at the front and is not afraid to say so. The Dutchman has never been one to shy away when things do not go his way. With his aggressive style and fearless driving, fans have arguably seen him as a driver who is hard to read.

As he gained experience in F1, he has matured over the years. However, his heated comments on the radio still continue. Case in point, Verstappen was notably angry with his race engineer in Spain when his DRS failed to open. He also bemoaned on the radio about the team’s failures because of mechanical issues which saw him retire twice in the first three races.
So, former F1 world champion Damon Hill opened up on Verstappen’s uncanny radio comments.
Damon Hill on Max Verstappen being critical of the team
It is fair to say that every driver has their own style on the track. However, Damon Hill feels that sometimes Verstappen goes overboard with his comments on the radio.

The former Williams driver also spoke about the difference between the drivers, as he indirectly pointed out Hamilton’s approach to the team as well. Speaking about Max, on the F1 Nation Podcast, he said, “But he’s quite often said things which are being harsh and quite critical of the team.”
“To the extent where he is accusing them of ruining his championship, rather than saying it’s a problem we’ve got and I’m sure they will fix it because we are a team, we are one and we fight and lose as one. That hasn’t come out of his mouth yet, I don’t think.”

Although Verstappen has had his share of frustration, it seems to work his way. Red Bull has massively improved ever since his retirement from the Australian GP.
He currently sits on top of the driver’s standings. Furthermore, he has been on the podium for the last 4 races, winning 3 of them.
Gilles Villeneuve’s thoughts on Verstappen’s aggressive radio comments
While Damon Hill has given his thoughts on Verstappen’s aggressive approach, Gilles Villeneuve states the complete opposite. After the Red Bull driver’s win in Barcelona, Villeneuve believes he always puts his team first.

He wrote in his column, “Max Verstappen always speaks in the we form when it comes to problems with the Red Bull, unlike others who point to the team and say ‘you’.

His angry rant was something that happens in the heat of battle – it sounded worse than it was. Everyone knows that he is performing at his maximum, and demands the same from the team.”
