As the Japanese Grand Prix concluded, Max Verstappen picked up his second championship in a row. The title comes after an indomitable performance from the Dutchman in the rain-drenched Suzuka Circuit. Even though Verstappen won the world title this year almost with no competition, things might be tricky next year.

The Red Bull driver won his second championship title in a totally contrasting way from that of his first one. With four more races to go, Verstappen took home the title already, whereas, in 2021, he had to wait till the very last lap of the very last race.

The win comes exactly 11 years after Sebastian Vettel’s victory. The German, who drove for Red Bull and won the conseecutive championship from 2010 to 2013, won the 2011 Japanese GP and picked up his second world title in a similar manner.

Moreover, in the year 2010, Vettel faced stiff competition from Alonso, the next year in 2011, Vettel won in an unchallenged manner. This is quite similar to the situation Hamilton and Verstappen find themself in.

On top of that, the German faced competition from the Spaniard yet again in 2012. Does this mean that the Briton is going to go against the Dutchman yet again next year? Only time will tell.

Saying Max Verstappen dominated the 2022 F1 season would be an understatement. The man from the Netherlands has not only picked up a massive 12 wins out of 18 outings [out of them two ended in DNFs], but also amassed a staggering 14 podiums and five pole positions.

A total of 366 points is what the Red Bull star has in his bag with four more races to go. With this, Verstappen has become the second youngest driver to win two driver’s championships after Sebastian Vettel.

After the race in Japan, Verstappen told SkySportF1, “The first one is a little more emotional, the second one is more beautiful. It’s been a special year, and you need to remind yourself as these kind of years you don’t have very often.”

“It’s a pretty crazy feeling, of course, because I didn’t expect it when I crossed the line. Of course, you could see it slowly happening, but it’s incredible at the end of the day that we did win it here,” concluded the Dutchman.
