Earlier this year, the inaugural Extreme E series kicked off in Saudi Arabia. Nine teams took to the new FIA-sanctioned off-road event, which takes place in some of the most remote locations on the planet. While nine teams compete this year, McLaren will join the new event in 2022.

And the British outfit revealed American racer Tanner Foust as their first driver to feature for their team in their debut Extreme E appearance.

American rallycross champion Tanner Foust to race for McLaren in Extreme E

The 48-year-old is a four-time US rallycross champion. In addition to that, he also has four X Games medals and two Formula Drift titles to his name. Foust is arguably one of the biggest names in off-roading motorsport, with a knack for scoring victories and podiums on a consistent basis.

Earlier today, McLaren teased an announcement that left every fan across the world with a high level of curiosity. With this announcement, fans of the Woking-based outfit can look forward to a successful debut in the off-roading event. They will reveal Foust’s teammate, and their first-ever female driver in the coming days.

2021 Extreme E season sees a battle between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at the top

In the series’ inaugural season, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg resumed their rivalry in a different form of motorsport. Although they aren’t driving against each other, their teams occupy the top two spots in the Extreme E championship.

Molly Taylor and Johan Kristoffersson, representing Rosberg X Racing, have 71 points from the first two races. They lead Hamilton’s X44 team, comprising Cristina Gutierrez and SĂ©bastien Loeb, by just 14 points.

With three races to go, this looks to be a thrilling battle set to go down to the wire. However, will McLaren, making its debut next year, give these two teams a tougher time in 2022? Only time will tell.
