If one asks which team has improved in recent times, the answer quite easily is McLaren. The English racing outfit has steadily made its way up the team standings after a short period of turmoil.

They currently occupy the 4th position in the Constructors’ Standings, only 20 points behind midfield rivals Racing Point. And they are cautiously on the rise, to bringing back their glory days.

But, recent news had believed that the selling of the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) was a sign of something serious.

McLaren a racing team, not a ‘real estate company’

However, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has alleviated any such fears. Speaking in the podcast ‘F1: Beyond The Grid,’ he emphasized that the proceeds of any sale would be reinvested in the team and by doing so, give the McLaren team a better and secure long-term future in Formula 1.

Asked if fans should be worried about this selling move, Brown stated, “No, definitely not. The majority of companies in this world don’t actually own the building that they live in. They are tenants.”

“To have that amount of money tied up in a building, when we are not a real estate company. So what we need to do is live there, we don’t need to own it.”

“We’ve got a lot of money tied up in that building. So if we can get that cash back and reinvest in the team and its business, that’s going to help grow us while still being tenants. We’ve got the best of all worlds.”

Brown has previously emphasized on investing in some parts and equipment – most notably, the wind tunnel simulator.

The team fixates on using the 2022 technical regulations

Aerodynamics has proven to be a crucial part of F1 cars. From that perspective, McLaren is working to make a much faster car than they have now for the 2022 season and onwards.

McLaren is already empowered by the fact that they will have a Mercedes engine from next year. Considering the results that Racing Point has produced, McLaren will hope for something similar.

The team is also set to be reinforced with a new driver pairing for 2021. Daniel Ricciardo joins Lando Norris in what promises to be an exciting partnership.

So, their next objective would be to solidify and secure the third position behind Red Bull. Safe to say then, things are looking bright for McLaren.
